That's right, it was Delgados' turn.

I was holding the reins too far apart at first. Del really picks up the queues from how and where you hold the reins. You keep them down and he walks off. You hold them higher and he goes right into gait.

This is a very responsive boy and compliments TJ. TJ is the Cruiser and Del is the Hot Rod. LOL

I still have a bit of a Paso smile. Since I'm still a pretty green rider I'm concentrating pretty hard so don't get the wrong idea that I didn't want to be up there. ;-)

PS: Sorry Barb, no can pics today.

The trainer was also riding him with just a string around the neck and he did awesome.

Del got in trouble a few times but overall did fantastic. He worked on that flat walk and did really well.

He is still going to need 1-2 more rides. In the beginning I figured about 4-5 rides total with the trainer. This was time #2 by the trainer. The next will be starting him on the trails out the front gait. Then a final ride off the property all the way out over the hills.

He is a good horse now and I think once gelded he will be fantastic.

The trainer and I had a heart to heart about TJ. About him staying a stud. We thought he would be better off getting collected a few times then gelded. Better for him so he can lead a happy, normal life. Since we do want a baby or two out of him because of his lines, but not the other stuff that goes with it. It's not really fair to him to be kept in a stall away from the other horses, never to leave the property. = (

Del and Troy did great together. Troy's Paso Smile was ear to ear.

The trainer again stayed over. Think that crush on Delgado is showing LOL Kept saying how smart he was and how easy he picks up on everything.

It was a good day :D

don't you just love it when things fall together.
it feel great!
I have that same High going on.

is TJ a hard horse -to handle as a stallion?
I have a stallion at my house that I board, and I can turn him out with my young gelding, and the owner takes him trail riding every place even with the mares.

how old is he?

Actually for stallions the trainer was shocked how calm they are.
This was only Delgados' third real ride.

TJ is 5 and Delgado is 3.

I think Paso Stallions are.
I ride with 2
and if no one told you they were stallions, you would never know!

TJ is easy as pie as long as no mares are close by. He is 5 now.

Maybe more of a green horse/green rider out on the trail type of thing. Especially if my folks ever ride him. I also just hate to think of him living his life in a stall not getting out. If we are only going to breed him a fewe times, what is the point to keeping him a stallion. Other then local fun shows, he won't be shown Are others going to want foals by him when there are other PPR stallions out there showing their butts off? I dunno. It's a huge decision.

Del is being gelded no matter what so no decision there.

do you have a stall with a turn out attached to it they dont have to be in a stall all the time.
my barn is open 24/7 unless I HAVE to shut them in.

I also turn the stallion out to pasture.

But I do hear what you are saying about worrying riding with others. and
being near mares.

you are sooooo right, there are many stallions out there.
that's why I gelded my guy.

You look great on him. He is going to be one good looking hot rod!
I do have to ask...what kind of headstall affair are you using on him...looks very interesting.

We use a regular Jaquima on Delgado, but this trainer uses a regular flat halter with the nose piece theaded over the nose and through the two sides of the halter. The reins are attached to the nose piece.

As for now, he is in a 24x48 stall (ok it started that way and he made it into his own round pen LOL) that is temporary. His new stall will be the same size but at the back end of the property.

If TJ was not a PPR we would not be hesitating on gelding him.
