Today was our employee picnic for all county employees. It was great. The best part was the inflatable fighting devices. They had inflatable boxing, bungee race and jousting (or whatever it is with the giant q-tip looking things). They also had giant tricycle races. I did pretty darn well.
It started with the thing where you hit the thingie with a hammer and try to ring the bell. I did it without a problem and was the only girl in our group to do so. :D I won a koozie that looks like a hawaiian shirt. Classy.
Then there was the tricycle race. I was up against the historic preservation planner and the stormwater bill manager. I donned my plastic viking helmet with confidence and the race was on. The pedals started moving faster than my feet down the hill. I had to coast to the bottom and then turn around to go back up to the finish line. I was in second place and the stormwater guy was pretty far ahead. I ended up coming from behind to beat him in a photo finish. It was awesome and I won a water bottle.
Next came the jousting. I challenged the county surveyor who is always talking smack to me. He went down hard under my mighty jousting stick. I discovered that it pays to be short with a low center of gravity. I also ended up taking down the big guy from public works. SWEET!
I did not do so well with the boxing. The Historic Preservation Planner whipped me, but that was OK since we are from the same department.
The most interesting part of the day was right before going back to the office. Some of my coworkers had brought their horses to trailride. When they got back, they were letting people ride them all over the place. One guy had gotten a horse away from the group but was having issues controlling it. I had to intervene. He was a little shocked when I took the horse from him, hopped on and took off. I had met the horse before and knew that he was pretty sensitive. His job is a cutting/reining horse so you know what can happen if you aren't paying attention. ;-) I found out that he could do spins. We had fun spinning and showing off in the volleyball court. Spinning is fun but trotting sucks!
To cap it off, Kevin and I met with our mortgage person today and we are all approved and ready to go. The only thing I am worried about is the appraisal. I am really really hoping that the house (with proposed improvements) will appraise for more than $170,000. It will work out great for us if it does.
It was a great day. :D
