Mel knows what I am talking about here.

Mine just keeps pouring fuel on the fire about forgetting the old family and only remembering the new. I keep getting emails like this about my step brother. I totally glad that he gets to spend time with Dad but they seem to forget that when I was growing up we never saw them because they were trying make it and make a name for themselves. UGGGGGHHHH.

This is the most recent email I got, like 10 minutes ago. I have already gotten three of them today.

ABF Freight System partners with Bill Elliott Racing to sponsor

young Chase Elliott, no. 9 bandolero bandit

Cornelius, N.C. (May 17, 2007) – Following a successful debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March, ABF Freight System, Inc.® is proud to announce a season-long sponsorship of the No. 9 Bandolero Bandit driven by 11-year-old Chase Elliott, son of NASCAR Champion Bill Elliott.

“We were very impressed with Chase during our first race at Atlanta, and we’re excited to partner with Bill Elliott Racing on the famous No. 9 for the Thursday Thunder Series. It is clear that Chase has inherited his father’s charisma and racing talent, and he has a bright future ahead of him,” said Danny Loe, ABF Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “ABF is proud to be on board for the next generation of this legendary racing family.”

Chase is looking forward to representing his first full-time sponsor, “I’m very excited to have ABF as a sponsor this year on my No. 9 Bandolero car. I’m thankful ABF has given me this chance, and I will do my best to race competitively and safely to represent ABF.”

Since retiring from full-time driver status following the 2004 season, Bill Elliott has combined his passion for racing with his commitment to family through the Bill Elliott Racing Driver Development Program with son Chase and nephew Trey Poole (age 18). “I am thrilled that ABF has provided Chase this opportunity to showcase his talents. It is moving that today’s sponsors believe in the young and growing talent of tomorrow’s stars. Teaming up with ABF, an exceptional sponsor already established in the higher ranks of stock car racing, is an outstanding opportunity. We are looking forward to a very long and successful relationship between Bill Elliott Racing and ABF Freight System.”

Chase is following closely in his famous father’s footsteps. In 2006, in only his first full season of racing, Chase won five races and five poles on his way to capturing the Colorado Sprint Championship in the Mini Max division. In the 80 cc Shifter Kart division, Chase competed against older drivers and captured one win and three poles and finished an impressive third in the championship standings.

So far in 2007, in his debut in the Bandolero Bandits Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March, Chase finished 6th out of 19 cars. He raced again in the series in April and improved to 3rd out of 11. Chase also competed in one race in each of the Mini Max and 80 cc Shifter Kart divisions in the Colorado Sprint Championships and won both events.

This summer Chase will compete in the No. 9 ABF Bandolero Bandit in the Thursday Thunder Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The series kicks off May 31 and runs through August 2. Chase will also run in a limited number of events in the Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, NC, that competes Tuesday nights from June 12 through August 8. Chase’s No. 9 will carry associate sponsorship from the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, the Dawsonville Pool Room and Aaron’s Sales & Lease Ownership.

ABF also sponsors the Braun Racing No. 10 ABF U-Pack Moving Toyota Camry driven by Dave Blaney in the NASCAR Busch Series, who currently sits third in the championship standings.

About Bill Elliott Racing: Hard work and a passion for the art of racing turned an eager young driver from a small Georgia town into a NASCAR Winston Cup champion. But, it was the strength and support of his family that first launched Bill Elliott into racing. These are the same principles that Bill has decided to build upon as he develops the young talent in his family.

George Elliott, the family patriarch, along with his wife Mildred, started bringing their three boys; Ernie, Dan and Bill, to the racetrack as mere children. The whole family was passionate about racing and it wasn’t long before the Elliott boys were behind the wheel. During events at local tracks like the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia, the Elliott’s could see their youngest son Bill had a raw, natural talent for the sport.

Since 1976, Elliott has participated in over to 756 Cup series races, achieved 44 wins, and collected 55 career poles. Bill also has participated in well over 100 combined races in Busch, Truck, IROC and home town dirt track races. With all of his incredible success, he still remains humble, stating, "We are all motivated by certain things. Of course, winning is one of them, but for me, the fans have always been the biggest motivational factor. I've said this over and over-our fans are the backbone of this sport and they are the reason we are able to do what we do. “Bill Elliott's devotion to both his sport and his supporters equals his talent, making him a legend with both his team and his fans. Bill became the All-time Most Popular Driver by being winning the award that is voted on by the fans, a record 16 times before retiring from its eligibility in 2002.

Elliott has combined his passion for racing with his commitment to family through the Bill Elliott Racing Team, based in Dawsonville, Georgia. The driver line-up includes Bill’s son Chase Elliott and his nephew Trey Poole. In 2007, Chase will compete in the Legends Racing Bandolero Series while Trey will drive in the Semi Pro Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway and select events at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Sorry Barb, it is just the annoyment factor.

Apparently we can't do anything right and pretty much have to go on a killing spree to get them to see what is up with us but with Chase everyone is just hovering over him waiting on him and telling everyone about it.

Here are some parts that bother me. I grew up with Starr, they never spent any time with her, sometimes it was like she did not exist to them. In many ways, it is still the same today. All of the so-called "devotion to family" is such a load of bunk.

Reading this would lead you to believe that Bill only had one child and he is oh such a wonderful family man. They conveniently leave out the other two that were thrown by the wayside while he was pursuing his career. Put yourself in Starr's shoes and read this. Imagine if he had been this dedicated to her.

I was at Nationals a few years ago with Mel. :D I had a blast. I was probably the only person sporting a ASB pendant but I was there!

I am going to try to make it by the show at Gainesville this weekend. I have a few horse shows and other plans I am trying to cram into 2 days. I am hoping I can make it all work. LOL!

Hmmm.........maybe........gee, I wish there were more Paso events that fit into my schedule up here!!!

Oh - and about family...haha....us kids (6 of us) go through periods where we are 'in favor' (get gifts, phone calls etc), and then suddenly fall out of favor and get complaitns, no contact, no gifts etc.........with my Dad. He live in VA, so it isn't like we can stop in and see him.......oh well - I learned long ago that Dad will be Dad! And to not worry myself over it.

Why am I thinking you were related to R. Petty?

I am sorry about that situation, Starr. I know that these kind of family relationships happen all the time, but you have the added pressure of the publicity.

I'm sorry that you've been hurt by your family, Starr. I was the "wonder" child in my family and my half-brother was the typical "step-child" to my dad. (He is two years older than me and was already with us when I was born). I have apologized to my brother and he holds no bitterness to me or our now deceased father. The guilt I feel is tremendous and I would love to be able to go back and change things but I can't. We have a very nice relationship now and I hope that someday you and Chase will have that too.

I'm new to NASCAR-about 10 years-so I started rooting for the younger guys instead of the good old boys. Now my guy-----24,24,24,24-is becoming the old guy. It's always a shock when you learn about the real person behind the public persona.

Not that it matters but is Chase your step-brother or your half-brother?

Well - never know what happens behind the scenes - I guess I have to have my MIL put the evil mojo on both of them ,that is a standing joke - if she doesn't like a driver and says it ,they usually lose !
FIL and Hubby and SIL drove Late Model Stocks ! But it got way too expensive - YA - like horses are cheap!
I loved A.J.Foyt and Ervin - but now #17 Kenseth ! I am showing my age ! I remember when the only race on the "radio" was Daytona 500!
Instead of being upset - say the "HECK" with them and do your own thing! ( I was being good Lori and PasoMom ;-) !
Ok - devil's advocate here - did you ever think about what is happening to Chase and - IF - he ends up not doing good - what his life will end up being like ?
A kid that age, IS he doing it because he loves it - If he loves it and does good fine - but if he is being used - I would have sympathy for him .But that is just me.
You are mad at your Father - but ,is it fair to be mad at Chase - if you think about what I said ?
I will probably be flamed or emailed for these comments - but ,so be it !

Don't worry Starr, there must be more out there like myself who are only vaguely aware that NASCAR exists, don't recognize either of the names (Elliott or Chase), would not even recognize them with a picture attached. However, we do recognize your name on the BB & read your posts, so grin and be happy

Sorry Starr for your agony over this. Family relationships are hard to deal with sometimes. If it causes you toomuch grief, you can choose to take a sabatical and just not communicate with them for a while. You may find you like that better - or not. I have one brother that I have cut from my life and it's made it so much easier on me. I hate losing a brother, but I hate him making me and my sister so miserable more. Thank God for good friends - your family of choice - who love you and celebrate who you are.

I'm with Monty on this one. I feel sorry for Chase. He is "chasing" his father's dream. I had a step-son like that. His father was desperate for Paul to be an NHL goalie. The poor kid put his whole life into hockey ... and didn't make the grade. End result: he's 38 ... no career, no future, no self-esteem, a drinking problem (that he's had since he was twelve!!!), a dope problem and an identity problem.

Parents need to get (and keep) their own lives. Kids need to find their own passions.

Write them off....

the more you fret the more power you give to their actions and they surely don't realize how often you get upset...

Sell your story to National Inquirer and say thanks dad, smiling all the way to the bank...

Decide what would make YOU happy with your life not related with ANYONE else and go for it.... At that point their STORIES in print won't have any punch anymore...

Call up your friends and have a horse washing party....!!! by the time your done you won't care who is doing what with whom...!!

PS when you get your cash call me.... I saw this horse I REALLY, REALLY LIKE......

Y'know, Rusel's got a point. The more you fret, the more power you give to them. And I think she's right again when she says they don't realize how often you get upset. Your father probably has NO clue he's upsetting you. Don't give him that power.
