Here is a good comparasin of the difference in color between winter coat and spring/summer - also showing the black hairs that shed out later than the light.......the dark hair at the top of Lucy's leg also sheds out, she ends up black only to about her knees.......the very light hair by her mane is not coming out yet - last year she had a couple of 'tufts' that never did shed out.......the dapples get a little harder to see, not so much black hair by summer.....

And here is a picture showing the ticking on Marci's sides.....it has expanded over the years - started out as just in her flanks.....this year she has it on her belly/sides too......remember, her sire is grey (born black).....
