Interesting. They caught PETA here 'rescuing' dogs and cats (with great fanfare) from the shelters and pounds, then euthanizing them and dumping them in dumpsters around town. Some of those animals WOULD HAVE found a good home if they hadn't been PETA'd to death. :(

In view of whats going on economically... high fuel prices, hay fields being mowed under for fuel corn, slaughter ban for human consumption (pet & zoo food o.k.) I would bet that equine rescue groups will be over-run with horses, and will have to start euthanizing those deemed "unadoptable" for whatever reason...
Those rescues with a backhoe and a pistol...who live in a state which allows you to bury livestock..... won't be in too bad a shape. Those who live in states where you cannot legally bury livestock....will be paying over $200 per horse (maybe much more..its $300 here) for euthanizing and burying.... because they will not be able to afford to feed them for the rest of their natural life while providing veterinary care at "X" amount of dollars a day just to keep them "standing". Soooo.... it makes one wonder where the money wil come from for that... Maybe Willy and Bo will pay it!

That's an old article. It's from 2002. Unfortunately, there are ppl out there that pretend to be rescues so they can get cheap horses and sell them for profit.

OhhOhhOhh I know one!! I know one!!!!
Right down the road from me too!!
But in all fairmness it's not profit if you can show the money is being used to feed the remaining horses (of course when neither owner has a real job and they have kids to feed and clothe, I wonder how much of the donation money goes to the kids upkeep? If I would donate to a rescue I certainly would donate 'hard goods' such as hay and feed, buckets blankets etc before cash..JMO

I saw date on the article but just wondered how often this sort of thing happens. And if there is ever anything done about it?
