At last after 2 nights foal watch and feeling really dragging the 3rd night, Emperador and Inisgnia's foal arrived while I slept. I checked her at 1:30am with nothing unusual happening. Went back to bed, conked out to the world, and woke up at 7 am. I went and peaked out the living room window towards the barn and paddock. I could barely see extra legs moving around. Mom had the choice of stall and connecting small paddock.
She usually likes to foal in the paddock as she did. The foal was up, around and nursing. So maybe foaled between 5-6am.

Its a bay dun solid colt!!! The cutest head and curvy tiny ears (those didn't come from mom either). It must have been fate as I had a positive boy name right off, and the girl name I was waning back and forth still searching.

So welcome to the world Precision de Gracia!

Yeah, don't ya love it when you plan so hard to be there and then you miss it after all! I've been up the last few nights with the mini mare...she just looks at me when I stumble out at 3 a.m. like..."what are YOU doing here???"

Beautiful, Lynn...your horses look picture perfect!! What a lovely lad! :D

This one if a colt was going to be a potential E Jr...for a stud colt. He looks like he may just be able to. I see so much of his dady in him...his carriage, presence, head ears, neck. What E needed to help the mama out in was the shoulder angle, neck set and refinement to head and ears. Looks like it worked! YEAH!

Insignia is solid built, natural gaited, straight correct legs... and has more size 15 hh. Plus she carries a dun factor dorsal and has produced one grulla crossed on a black. E has 2 bay fillies I have seen before I got him that had the strong leg barring. This new guy looks to have that too.

No sleep for me now, how about a good breakfast? and sleep good tonight. Promises to be a gorgeous weekend, and its another hay getting up in the barn day!

Insignia is my killer mom...I must admit. She is an excellent loving mom, but very protective that first week of the new one. Best time to treat the foal is right after the birth when she is some what incapacitated. Well since he was up and moving... I took in a bucket of grain (her second love after foals), let her have some.... and got where I could gte ahold of the baby to gte iodine on the navel. Put the grain bucket down..anyway mom was giving me the hard stare less then a foot from me...baby in between while I gave him his iodine...he had to jump around some....and I felt that hard stare and did what I had to do and left them alone. The advantage of several nights close foal watch was she got used to me hovering around her, so I was hoping there was some level of trust built for early on handling. She had that look of concern in her eyes, but some trust when I was holding him.

She lost Precision's full sister "Exquisita Luna" 2 years ago at birth due to her being a breach birth. That birth was tramatic to everyone involved incluidng mom, which is why this foal was so important to arrive healthy...the sex didn't really matter! Insignia (DOB '89)is the last offspring of my first Paso Fino mare Luisiana got in '78 (for the PPR fans..check out her pedigree). Luisiana was imported in utero by Cese Figueroa, and was a daughter of Sonador. You know about Emperador... just alot of personal history behind this baby.

YEAH! thanks for the congrats!

Paula .. yes (my old guy ..don't tell him I said that) Emperador is the daddy. He is 26 this year. Just started up for next year's babies this past week, and concentrating on foundation colombian lineage to line breed on... Guala, Baron que tal, Eblis, Mahoma, Hilachas. Got to preserve those old valuable lines to carry on to the future.

Precision's mom is an outcross in lineage though.

Lynn, how do you GET such posed photos....that one where something new sees Daddy O...is a real classic!!
I want to know how many pictures you delete before you find a keeper!!

Gorgeous little man...but then ALL of your horses are!

Carol N...that delay factor on digital cameras is a real killer for taking good pics. They do have to stay in place for 2-3 seconds...usually they move by then. Yeah, you may see that one in a future photo foal contest. I was lucky he held his pose, and I had my camera in hand. I hope to get a good one or two pic in every session. They usually move first though. The horse has something to do with it. I have some horses which are more photogenic and will strike a nice pose easily more then others who never seem to strike a good pose. call it "presence"...some have it, some don't!

glad you like them. Precision is a week old today. Its hot and buggy, but will see about getting some new pics this weekend. I am dog-sitting an aged beagle for my Dad for a week, and she (dog) certainly has gotten the horses attention...or shall I say ears forward, so yeah a potential photo-op!
