so.. I figured since Del is getting close to start his trail career, I would hand walk him down the street aways.

I thought maybe he would miss TJ but nope. He wanted to look at everything walking by. He was prancing but I did not expect him to be 100% calm.

When we turned down a connecting street, dogs on both sides were barking and running the fenceline. He did decently. He has had our dogs race around him barking and playing.

When the other horses popped out at him he got all studly for a second. Then after a second he just walked on.

He did not even work up a sweat which is good because it shows he is not too nervous out. I'll do it a few times a week to get him more calm to a walk so when the trainer gets on him he will be more at ease. Though I think once gelded some of his behaviors will go away.

He wanted to look and check everything out so I let him. He was curious instead of being scared. Another good trait I believe.

He gets good brownie points for today. Even stood by the front gate as it open and closed. 2 cars went by and no problems.

One neighbor stopped by her gate to tell us how good he looks compared to when he came LOL She asked who his Sire and Dam were and I told her he was a Paso Fino. She said she had wondered what gait he was doing when she saw us. He was doing a mega slooooooow corto prance on the trail next to the street. I was trying to get him more calm but it will take a few times I am sure. I want a nice calm flat walk. We are getting one under saddle now so I have faith in him.

She has a senior TWH and 2 others I did not get the breed. She says the person down the street has Pasos but she thinks Peruvian Pasos.

She seems nice but I'm still mad she got the house instead of us when it was for sale LOL

I've seen much worse on their first time off the property. No calling, no trying to hurry back or turn to go back even with TJ throwing a crybaby fit running around in his pen. I gave him a nice stalk of bamboo for being so good.

Sounds like he is on his way to being a great horse!

I have thought about walking my colt off the property, but I am so worried that something might happen and he would get away from me.

My neighbors filly took off once and went straight out to a major state highway, then decided to run up the off ramp of Interstate 75!! Nearly missed being hit by a semi before she ran into some bushes and a car pulled off and blocked her.

We live on a dead end road with almost zero traffic on weekends. Weekdays are bad with folks zooming to work in the morning and early evenings whch would be the times I would walk since it's hot early here now.

I was expecting him to be alot worse. I wanted to see how much it bothered him. He is pretty darned easy to handle considering.

I do use a chain as a precautionary measure for the just in case situation. I'd rather be proactive and not need it then having wished I had extra control in case someone's dog was out or something went bad.

He is not staying a stud so this is all just to get him ready for the outside world and trails we will hit.

I did get a sweet PM asking about our bamboo. It is a safe to eat variety. Rabbits and deer eat it as well. I wish I knew more about it to talk about it. I know their poos are normal and they have only done well using it as a supplement to their normal feed amount.

It does great in high heat and semi cold winter temps so if anyone coming to the Gold Cup wants a few root bulbs, let me know. It is considered a weed out here, like crab grass lol
