Four Paso Finos, 1 TWH, 1 KMH, 1 MFT, a couple Arabs and the rest QH's took their riders up to Nine Mile Seep in the Cedar Mountains west of Skull Valley. This is high desert country that is already very dry and dusty. The seep feeds a trough that the BLM and Back Country Horsemen put in years ago. Every year they go back up to clean the mud and debris out of the trough.

This bachelor was down at the bottom on the foothills.

These are riding up the canyon. It is a two hour ride from where you park. This area is so remote, even the 4-wheelers haven't found it yet so it still has a very narrow trail to the top. There are areas where the trail widens out in the wash.

The old man at the front is 82 years old. I've known him since I was 17.

There were 13 horses total on this ride....a pretty good sized group.

Up at the seep, we ran into another bachelor. He took off as we approached.

We ate lunch at the seep. There wasn't enough water for the horses, so I was glad I carried in a jug for Zar. Back at the trailer, I had a 5-gallon container of water. Zar and Sadie drank the whole thing.

And coming back down.

Wow, neat to see the wild ones up close like that. I love the older riders were out there riding. Glad the 4 wheelers have not found it yet. Looks like it was interesting and fun.

Looks like a lot of fun!

Did you get pics of the seep where the water was?

It is hard to beat this area for riding. You can ride in everything from red rock desert to alpine meadows. It's amazing. I want to move, but I'll never leave the west. All these millions of acres of Federal land to ride in spoil you rotten. I'm looking at Nothern New Mexico area.

I didn't take a picture of the 'seep'. It was just a trough with mud in the bottom. We cleaned the mud out so it can be clear again, but there is a reason it is named "seep" and not "spring." Jay said in years past it has been full of water, so it is a very dry year this year.

There is a nice open water source (spring) at the bottom of the mountain. We saw three horses there, but I was driving and didn't get a picture of them. Pretty buckskin too.

Ya'll are welcome to come out and ride (well, not ALL AT ONCE!!!). StephB was here for a week of riding a few years ago. Hollis is planning a ride this summer. It's all so very 'handy'.

I'm even plannng on taking Zar to Arizona in November for a week of trail riding and to do the Arizona Horse Expo (first time Pasos will be in it!!!) Including a weekend of trail riding here: http://www.experiencesedona.com/gallery/redrock/
I might have to buy some more Memory Flash Cards for this weekend. LOL

I love seening pics of the wild ones ,since we have 2 former "wild" ones here - Those batchelors made me think of how Cody would have looked in the wild - he came from Nev.
Here he is after a bath - he may look big - only is 14 hands ,but thinks he is 10 foot tall! LOL

I've been to Colorado a few times and have to admit to being overwhelmed with the different scenery, just five minutes drive away; from green rolling hills to red rock canyons and to land that promises no need to fly to the moon or mars. I loved it.

You know Carol, sometimes I really don't like you :hitting

Like Florida scenery compares....

Glad you had a good time and thanks for sharing (really).

I miss riding among the Eucaplytus trees, the hills, winding trails, and wildlife in CA :(

But I've got mosquitos, no-see-ums, gators, armadillo holes to keep me amused.

Abbie, I yelled at him to stop and let me take pics of his feet for you, Zar even nickered and said it in horse. But there was too large a group there, and I think we looked like a round-up. So he high tailed it over the hill.

Candice, maybe we should work a trade, you come here for some scenic riding and I'll go there for some farm tours.

Thanks for posting some great pictures, looks like a great ride.
The wild horses look pretty healthy, must be some good range out there even with the lack of water.

Thanks so much for sharing!!! Let us know when Hollis is coming. Is he bringing his own horses??? I really would love to do a cross country with a couple of horses and now that we have the larger trailer I wouldn't feel guilty about them staying in the trailer when there was no suitable boarding place since each would have her own stall on wheels big enough to lie down in!

Monty your boy is gorgeous!!! What a hunk!!
