We're posting this on the open forum because I'm sure many are guilty of thinking they can get by on very little sleep. Well you can't.

Staying up all night is very hard on college kids let alone those of us who are over 40. Being sleep deprived in not only not healthy, it is dangerous because although you may not notice it you actually have very brief mental blackouts. Sleep deprivation is also linked to obesity. And one other thing while I'm on my soapbox - caffeine (Red Bull, etc.) after 12 noon can and will prevent you from going to sleep at night when you should.

The world needs good people so no matter what you have to do - you NEED and must get 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night to function. We LOVE all you guys and don't want you to crash - and you will if you keep this up!!! And it takes several days to recover from one day of sleep deprivation. You can't just sleep in for one day and get over it. Your whole biological clock gets messed up by lack of sleep.

For all you lurkers who skimp on sleep also. A lady crashed into the brick entrance sign for our subdivision just last year and was killed because she fell asleep at the wheel. One study listed driver inattention as the number one cause of highway fatalities. Driving while sleeping is just as impairing as driving under the influence. Unfortunately there is no quick test for this so some people do it regularly. How many of you have found yourself having traveled several miles with no memory of it? Don't do it. You won't just kill yourself. Sleep is just as essential as eating for survival. Your brain doesn't work without sleep. It's like running on dead batteries. So PLEASE get enough sleep!!!! Your family and critters need you!!!

Emergencies don't count but just don't drive if you can possibly avoid it. I've come so close to losing it a number times. it's really scary!!

And of course you have a chat with that mare and tell her that it's 9am to 9 pm for foaling!!! YA HEAR!!! Right!!!

Leila....I REALLY hope that I am not the reason for your lack of sleep last night.... :( ......lord knows that I've been the reason for the last week, but I hope you got through it, and are now sleeping your little heart out! :D

I need to change my habits too....nearly every night I get home from the farm around 9:30/10pm. Once I'm there, I can't peel myself off the horses...plus, I'm getting them in shape for the summer. They're gonna be so buff... 8-)

Hey I am still going like the energizer bunny.

MG -- I do appreciate the thoughts and you are so right, i won't deny that.

ever since I was a kid I never slept well. I have stayed up all night but when i sleep I do. Also I do not drive unles i have slept soem if not then I am hnot getting behind the wheel. My sister in law went with me in case I got tired. She can't drive but like I told her i could pull off the road and go to sleep and she could call someone.

I got a lot accomplished. though. We have our state convention dancing all w/e. Got to get our clothes ready. Can't wait!

I worked on another project for someone here  no not you Abby LOL
Your done girl your outta here before you change you mind on something else. LOL (j/king) ;-)

I had to type the minutes from our callers association meeting since Ellis is the secratary. Yeah and who does the typing. :) Thank goodnes this year we give that up in October and move up to Vice president of the Florida Callers Association. The following year President then advisor so we have this year + 3 more years.

This past Thursday night I was elected Pesident of our local high school FFA booster club and I don't even have any kids in school.

I did take a shower around 7:30 am and lay on the sofa and slept till 11:30 Up and to the post office to send Abby her stuff and to Gainesville to find some stuff for a banner.

Got back home dinner is done and I am going to start on the banner after a few minutes rest. I made Ellis promise not to let me go to sleep. Since I need to get this done and the mowing done by Wednesday and pack so I can leave Thursday.

You do indeed get a lot done!!

We're just really aware of the problem since we've been doing almost weekly trips 500 miles back and forth to FL and SC. Many times the driver will sleep while the passenger pumps the gas and gets some snacks. A 20 minute power nap really does make a huge difference. But we recently took a three day trip to Pacific time and back and went 24 hours without sleep. The degree of impairment was horrendous and we had to drive 200 miles after we got off the airplane. We pulled off and slept about every hour and the next day slept straight through 16 hours.

But my question for you Leila and any others who live on very little sleep is can you keep the schedule you do with NO caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate, red bull etc.) or stimulant of any kind? If you can't then you may be putting your health at risk. If you can then medical science needs to study you to see how you do it because I do hate to sleep that much of my life away!!

MG------ Actually, you may laugh but as i said before I have done it all my life.

I do not drink coffee or tea (hot tea a couple times over the winter but I don't care for it)

if i have "a" diet pepsi if i take a swallow every once in awhile it can last me a couple days (20oz)

my family laughs at me because they will open my fridge and find several piece of bottle of diet pepsi

I have only recently found i like red bull, and yes it does have caffiene in it but the benefits of vitamin B6 B12 along with other vitamins and mineral listed.

But if i have none of the above in the house I would still be this way.

I do get tired yes but I can steep 3-4 hours and for me that is as good as 16. Now Ellis on the other hand requires 8-10 per night LOL

I can't help it I am who I am.

When I have a project going and everyone is asleep when i Look up at the clock I have been going ALL night and not realized it.

When my kids were in school I would Clean do laundry and sew at night go to bed around 6am get the kids up and off to school around 7 and never once take a nap during the day. Ellis days he knows when I take a nap in the daytime, I have over done.

Well dang guys!! ROTFL :D my family has always told me i work well under pressure.

and beside from you guys telling me to rest so much i lay down on the sofa to watch a movie and fell asleep for 30 minutes. I forgot I always fall asleep during movies. LOL I used to go to the movies every monday night with a friend and our kids and i would fall asleep every time. I would rather be home with my horses.

and ellis say I do not need to clean house before i leave, that is the pits.

for some reason that comment burst my bubble and i slept for another hour but NOW i can't seem to get motivated to pack

ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Oh no believe me I'm not laughing. I do believe some very few and very special people really can do fine on less sleep and that we need to find out how they do it. Sleeping seems like such a waste of time. When we were in Colombia the kids always took a nap after school then stayed up to midnight. That society stayed up all night quite frequently but then they do consume a lot of coffee. Perhaps it has something to do with the 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark they have all year long. It's very weird. I didn't need as much sleep when we lived there either. Can't explain it.

I was laughing at the viagra comment though.

I know a few people - of course they are all "perfect" people, who only require four or five hours sleep. It does seem rather unfair, as I require an absolute 8 or more. My husband meeting one of them (Cristi's mom) asked if she was on amphetamines. A straighter lady couldn't be found..... no drugs in her house, not even asprin. (She has outlived three husbands). The unfairness seems to come in .... because they can not only have a work life, a family life..... they have time for another huge passion. They can pack three lives into their one allotment.

Leila honey, I don't mean to change the subject . .

but I have a question I've been meaning to ask you, sweetie.

I've been waiting for Blessing to feel better, before I ask ya.

This picture appears suspect, to say the least.

Blessing's "hole" looks like it has lips !!!
Or does it just look like a mini buttt hole to some of ya'll?

Inquiring minds want to know.
