No laughing.
The first Jaquima we got for Del does not have a Pisador. It would not fit over TJs nose harddly so we had to get TJ his own. The new lwill fit, yeah! And here we thought Del's head was bigger.
Here I am trying to figure out how it goes probably making it much more complicated then need be. I'm one of those who needs to see something done in person to really get it or details instructions.
So the questions.
Does it come off and put on each time you put on your Jaquima?
And how exactly do you put it on?
The rawhide one we have has two rings on the curb strap to attach reins, this one is on the side. What is the difference you get when they are placed in the different places?
This is the one we got:

This is not a a jaquima, it is a show bridle... there is no barbado (curb).. and the side rings are not strong enough to use as training equipment so please be careful...
Now as far as the pisador - we either disconnect and use a clip to hold the throat latch loops or "modify it so that the pisador has a "quick attach" clip if we want to have one... If you are going to use it as designed (lunging, corrections, tying etc) then make sure that you leave it in tact. BUT this is not a piece of equipment I would tie. Hilason makes pretty stuff but it does not hold up to the rigors of training.
the end of the pisador without a loop goes throught the two loops at the throat latch, then through the loop of the pisador - gets bundled up and attached to your saddle...

I was afraid to buy another rawhide one and not have it fit. They all look alike. TJ's schnoze is bigger then normal maybe? I don't know.
The rawhide ones are also pretty hard to undo buckles and such. At least the one we bought is.
Troy thinks the rawhide ones are ugly.
This leather one seems pretty sturdy and thick.
TJ has been working in a halter with a side pull through the rings so we wanted another step up.
I'd rather not use the pisador but the way this bridle is set up something has to attach to hold the throatlatch in place.

go to your feed store and and buy a carabiner or another kind of snap and put it in both throat latch loops...
I own two of the Hilason (exactly the same as yours) for parades....
Casa dosa has the poly trainer with a harness leather style bosal (barbado and nose band) if you dont like the rawhide.. You can also buy individual flat leather nose bands and curbs (barbado) that fit your colt.
I have a colt like yours (way big head), and I use traditional curb and noseband and hang them on a "training" bridle (with the snaps) made of leather.. Ut us basically a western headstall..

I would say that most of my horse's heads are bigger then traditional Colombian tack will fit. On a Jaquima I have added flat snaps to the check pieces and made them 4" longer and that helped there, but nothing helped the browband being too short (pulled headstall too close behind horse's ears, rubbing them painfully, and then the check pieces were almost in the eyes). I gave up on Jaquimas and went with the training bridle Stef describes. I have one from Casa Dosa and one from Yancy. I prefer the Yancy, but these are very adjustable and both work great.

These reasons are exactly why I use the two piece headgear... bosal & barbada.... I like a perfect fit...especially on training gear...
Jenn..have you been to casadosa.com? Real good tack there and reasonable...

I use the casa dosa poly trainer for my mare. She has a long head. I like it because I can switch out the nose band, or curb if I need to. I use it as my trail riding, everyday riding bosal.

Jenn,
Don't buy anymore crap on Ebay, especially without know if the seller knows what they are doing. Better to order from Casa Dosa. Get the single cheek headstall, with buckles..I don't like the snaps, they tend to dig in on the horse's head. You can put a pisador on that. I'd spend the money getting another noseband and maybe a curb, so you can work your horse a bit as well!

Will Casa Dosa be at the Gold Cup again? She could probably buy from Doug right there, if you want to wait that long.

Also, as for the rawhide jacquima being stiff, this is what I had been told to do, and it worked.....
Take the jacquima and LIBERALLY coat it with vaseline.......put it in a plastic bag and let it sit in the sun for a day or so to 'cook'. Take it out of the bag and wipe off the excess vaseline.
This will soften up the rawhide. I have one I did about 4-5 years ago at least and it is still soft.

Thanks for the tip on the rawhide. Though I always get the look when I buy vaseline LOL
As for waiting, I think I probably will. I want to see them in person and take measurements of TJ's nose. And hopefully make an early bday present of it hehe.
Mom got this latest Jaquima for Troy for his bday last week. So, no dissing mom ;-)
I like the idea of interchangable pieces as well.
