Got off work on Thursday and headed to the airport. Things were going well except my plane was a bit late taking off. Arrived in Atlanta around 11:30 PM and headed to the rental car office around midnight. Got on the road around 12:30 and headed toward the hotel near the show grounds.
I was irritated that the radio didn't work on the rental. :-? But it was the last one on the lot at that time of night, so I had no choice.
Arrived at the hotel around 1:30, got a hug off Primroseddp since he was just coming in from the arena, and then hit the shower and off to bed.

Friday was kinda a slow day at the show, but I did make some new friends. There was a super cute little girl who was my Jr Sales Associate all weekend. ;-)
Her name was Sarah, and she was just about as cute as she could be.
She wanted to know how old I was...
So I asked her how old she thought I was....
.....12..... sounded good to me...so I went w/it.
She hung out w/me at the booth and talked up the customers all day.
That night, she told her Mom....
Mom....I like my new friend. And did you know she is only 12!
Mom says to her....Honey...I don't think that girl is 12.
Oh yes she is! Sarah insisted. She told me so.
Mom says....How many 12 year olds do you know w/boobies like that?
Sarah..... :confused

:lmao

I also got to ride Dave and Dixie's mare Tiva quite a bit. 8-) Wow! What a mare. Worth her weight in gold I tell ya.

They had the largo pole bending competition, and Dave won on Tiva. 8-) Don Primrose was 2nd on Marco Polo, the stunning stallion that belongs to Janet Ladd.
I forget where all everyone placed, but Dixie and Boyd also competed. Who am I missing? :?:

Anyway, back to the show, the classes were pretty good, and I liked my vendor space b/c I was close the ring and got to watch the show. 8-)

Saturday, more of the APF gang showed up. Hiedi, NAtlanta, britzlove and Deb Deckert popped in on us, baileyholc spent the day and ended up staying the night. Jennifer was also there, and not to mention our birthday girl Mel. Wildfire was there with Dave and Dixie. Oh yeah, Sandy MM, Greg, and PasoLady were there. And Cindy...well, she was kicking butt in all her classes,....and I do mean ALL the classes. I think that woman had a horse in every class. I bet she was worn out by Sunday. ;-) I'm sure I am missing some folks...help me out here....

I just have to say....the fun games ROCKED. :crazy bannana
I have never had so much fun in the arena. No lie.
They had the largo barrel racing, and largo races....with a nice payback if you had entered all the largo events. I think Dave won the overall prize and Don Primerose came in second (still in the money).

I competed in the boot race w/Don as my partner riding on Marco. We went up against Boyd and Sue.
We were supposed to take off our shoes and give them to our partner.
Then largo down to the end of the arena to our partner, get off and put our shoes on, then get back on, and largo back.
Well....I get down there to Don to find out he doesn't have my shoes....he is holding Sue's! Those rascals had switched shoes on us! I have to get down, run over to Boyd to get my shoes, and run back. Sue gave Don a good smack w/her shoes. Anyway, I still managed to make it across the finish line first. 8-) I even won a bag of brushes a crocheted fly mask.

I also got to compete on Tiva in the egg and spoon class, and the wine glass class. I got 3rd in both, and managed to win $40. 8-) I had the wine glass class won until the board came and I had to wait on some others horses to go first....Tiva didn't like that and was getting impatient. That is where I lost the majority of my water. But until then....I still had most of my water. ;-) Arleene Krungle and Lori West beat me in both of those classes, and let me tell ya, we were all pretty close. In fact Arleene and Lori tied in the egg and spoon. 8-)
But for real, I had so much fun in those classes. 8-)
I felt the atmosphere of the show was very fun and laid back. It can be very serious in Miami and Ocala sometimes. The classes are back to back, and there is no time for fun and cutting up. And certainly no time for the fun classes in the schedule. :-? But here, even the announcer Bernie was making jokes over the speaker and keeping it fun and lively. For me, the highlight was the fun games. They were awesome. After all....I got to be 12 years old again all weekend.

Sunday was not as fun....
First thing in the morning, I go out to the car to drive to the arena.
I unlock the car w/my key, put it in the ignition and turn it....
Nothing.....my battery is dead....I must have left my lights on. :-?
So I call SandyMM and tell her I need someone to come w/jumper cables....and hang up.
Then I go to open the door and go back to my hotel room....and the doors are locked.
On this particular car (the Saturn Ion), the doors automatically lock when you turn the car on, so they had locked when I turned the key.....but for some reason...my key was stuck in the ignition and wouldn't come out...and the doors wouldn't unlock. Everything was electric....so none of the buttons were working. I realized I am literally trapped in the car. The temperature automatically goes up about 10 degress at this point.
http://bestsmileys.com/hot/3.gif

I call the front desk and tell them I am in the parking lot trapped in the car. Yes sir, that's right, I'm locked INSIDE the car.
So I have the front desk looking for jumper cables as I try not to panic.
Meanwhile, I see two young men walking thru the parking lot. No use in screaming....they can't hear me. :-? So I am waving my arms and wildly motioning them to come to me. They are giving me the....You talking to me? look. I shake my head YES and wave them over. I explain again, that I am locked in the car, and that I need a jump for the car.
I pop the hood, and about this time the jumper cables arrive. Almost out right? :-? Wrong!
Turns out, the battery for Saturns is now in the trunk...which I cannot open b/c the buttons are all electric. :-?
By this time, I am calling the rental car company. The customer service person is assuring me that I am indeed NOT locked in the car. I just need to press the door lock button....
I'm all, duh....I pressed ALL the buttons already...and they ain't working. :-?
There is a little positive post for a charge under the hood, and we hook up to it, and I get just enough juice to unlock the door. I escape the rental car prison, but now the car still wouldn't start after all that. So the rental company had to send a whole new car for me, and tow the other one.
I only got to spend about 3 hrs at the show on Sunday before I had to leave to the airport. But funny enough, the show ended early around 2, so I didn't miss anything. ;-)

A special thank you to Riley of Kestler tack for letting me hang out at his booth this weekend, and all his hospitality.
Not to mention Dave and Dixie for letting me enjoy Tiva in the fun games. 8-)
And of course, Janet Ladd for my winning ride on her Marco Polo! He sure is one sweet largo horse. Woo wee! is he fast. 8-)
And last but not least, my Jr Sales Associate Sarah...for letting me be 12 years old again.
:hug

 How scary!!! I can't believe you got locked in the car! Sounds like Saturn needs to make some changes to their car designs.

Great story! Sounds like a really fun show, maybe I will make it there next year.

Did you get any pics while you were there?

Yeah, it was NOT funny when it was happening. I was getting a little paniced. It seemed to grow hotter and stuffier inside the car w/every second.

But yes, the show was super fun and I'll go again next year. 8-)

All the mechanics I know HATE Saturns. Now to make you feel better I got locked _in_ a bathroom. I was about 12 (LOL) and visiting my grandparents. They had sliding doors on the bathrooms. Everyone had gone and I was alone. I locked it and it got stuck. The window out only elves could fit through. I cried and cried and resigned myself to death. They came home and I pounded to be let out. My cousin walked over lifted the door up and it slid open. HAHAHAHAH

Sounds like such an awesome event, WOW! I like the more relaxed fun atmosphere.

Turns out there is a hidden compartment in the steering wheel that has a switch that you can unlock the key with. :-? However, the manual was not in the car, and it took the Alamo rep a while to find the instructions on it.

Thanks, Lori, for the nice comments about our mare. Definately a fun weekend, I think the crowd enjoyed the fun games and largo races better than the show! Also, I agree with Sandy, who hasn't been locked in their rental car at one time or another...

Wow, sounds like a great show! Do all the shows in Georgia have the games classes?

I showed horses from the time I was 10 untill I was about 36, I'm pretty well done with serious showing. I do enjoy a fun class every now & then though.

Yes we have, at least since I have been involved. Wish you would have come by and participated.

I think we got the Largo Event off on a good foot even though it had no Largo fanatics in it. Though I do have to Say Dixie and Domino need to be at Nationals this year. And if she gets in some practice on turns she will be hard to beat next year. Hopefully we can get more horses involved next year and or a big sponsor.

Those of you that were involved any and all suggestions are welcome.
And thank you so much for stepping up to promote this side of our breed.
I beleive we gave the crowd something to really get excited about.

I had a ball at the Jubilee and have just been waiting for some of the pics to show up.

Anyone who knows more info about the roan horse, or the horse Mr. Suarez is riding, the bay with all the chrome, and, the horse Mr. Hampton is riding....I'm searching to know more about them..the horses I mean.

I found the roan in a stall but no people to talk to, I found Mr. Hampton outside the ring just prior to class but didn't bump into after. The elusive bay with four white feet and blaze, I spent a long time looking for and never found him. There was just so much to do.

I did have a ball, and it was lovely to see all the APF peeps, though I guess some were there that I didn't get to meet because I didn't know you were there and I'm sorry! I left for TN Friday morning. I was probably definately the only Hoosier there.

I'll also say what an inspiration Lori West is. We saw her cute palomino ridden first I believe by Mrs. Figueroa, but when Lori rode she appeared to be busting at the seams with joy...the true picture of pleasure! It was an honor to meet someone as overjoyed with pasos as myself! And what a way to promote pasos..hey we even tried to sell a non-horse friend of Deb D's on her yearling gelding!

Congrats to Cindy! I cannot even wrap my mind around her dedication! She said she had good help, but I still am in awe! When we say that she was on a horse in nearly every class, that doesn't begin to cover the description. Not only was she physically riding a horse in every class, she was intensly focused on horse inside and outside almost every class. Like, maybe chemically as well as physically connecting with them...I don't know how to describe it. Maybe just say that we should all strive to have an ounce of her focus in our relationships with horses at least.

Also, and though lastly, not to be taken lightly, I also was priviledge to observe some incredible horsemanship by Shaw Laney too, and the elegent lady in the rust colored, I so hope she doesn't mind me saying I was impressed by her too! And of course Mr. Figueroa (I am so hoping I spelled that right)

To anyone I did not meet! Hope to catch you next time!

Britz

Thanks Britz. Sorry we did not get a chance to chat more. You guys must have headed out by the time I was able to actually sit for a while. Glad you could make it and it was good to finally meet both you and Deb even if it was briefly between classes.

The rider of the Roan stallion...

I spoke briefly with the rider at the Madison Fun Show where he was riding that stallion. I was very impressed with the horse/rider combo...the horse would take one step at a time, at the rider's cue, AND appeared to stay in gait!

They were from Full Moon Farm, GA and that is all I recall. Criadero Luna something...

I'm soooo glad you do Erin because I wasn't sure when I wrote it if it would be "Got" by anyone. We're blessed to have a Cindy for sure...see she's blushing!

I saw so much that was more than most horse shows....I'm serious as a heart attack...I might join the GA club and next year make sure I have beat up truck and trailer so I can haul my Yankee horses down there!

I forgot to mention, I was also totally enthralled by the largo barrel race, and wish I could have seen more of the largo events, but alas, we were on a schedule too and TOTALLY underestimated the drive there.

Great Job on that Boyd!

And Cindy....yes, if left to my own devices, thank god Deb was there or I'd never go home.....as it is I'm beginning to think my hubby may need to get me a Home Again pet micro chip because if no one stopped me I might just follow horses around the US!

Gosh, Britz, that was really nice of you to say.
I really enjoy riding, and try to carry that with me in the ring.

My hat is off to the Georgia Paso Fino Horse Association for a wonderful show. It was a nice facility, perfect weather (in the 70's, low humidity), well run, fun with a relaxed atmosphere. I'll be back! What a suprise to get reserve HP a/o...I only had 2 horses there to ride, but they both did very well.
