Just wanted to let you all know, who have been following Maggie's illness, that we are losing the battle and we are now playing a waiting game. She has rebroken out in blisters and oozing again. Her feet have not reswollen but.....her back end has become weak. She can still walk but she shakes really bad. She still eats good and is not having any problems going to the bathroom-although her stools have a little blood mixed in now. The Vet and I have decided that she is not ready to be put down yet and that Maggie will let me know when she is ready. So we are just taking it one day at a time and I am spending as much time with her as possible. We are still praying for a miracle to happen and will right till the end. Just wanted to update those of you who care. Thanks ever so much.

Oh, I am so sorry. That is a really hard decision to make, but you will know when it is time. My boxer is getting really bad in her hips and back legs, but still gets around, sleeps a lot, and eats good, but I know that one day I will have to make that decision. You and Maggie are in my prayers. I have had a dog my whole life and only had to make that decision once with our English Bulldog that we had for 13 yrs. I held him when he took his last breath, and I still cry when I think of him. Hugs to you and Maggie.

I know how hard it is to make that Big Decision. Maggie will tell you when she is ready, and because she told you...you will be ready for her.

Kathy, I am so sorry. She is such a young dog to go through something so terrible. It is so strange (to me) that it is so much like the same problem your Paso had. You must be way tired of oozing skin by now.

What a heart breaker. :hug

That is the pits. We're so sorry. But I'd still keep searching because you'll learn something that may at least help someone else's beloved pet.

To tell you a miracle story of our own. The show cat community was having a terrible time with what turned out to be a mite. Nothing would stop it. Undoubtedly it burrowed into the skin so normal dips didn't kill it. Cats were losing their hair, getting blisters and scabs and being put down at an alarming rate. Well one of ours got it also so we went to our vet and he had just gotten in a book on dermatological diseases in cats. It told him to dip the cat in lime sulfur solution (feed store fruit tree spray) 20 to 1 dilution - actually sponge it on - and let it dry. The vet was very surprised because he said he didn't know you could use lime sulfur on cats. Well we tried it and in one day the sores started to heal and in a week the hair was growing back in. We passed the word on and amazingly enough it worked. The cats were cured and the outbreak was stopped. Why does it work? Lime sulfur on the skin will produce microsopic amounts of hydrogen sulfide gas which is a major poison but the amount is so small it does not harm the cat but since it's on the skin the gas actually penetrates down into the outer layers where the mite was located and killed it. By the way it does work for head lice but it stinks really really bad. You have to wear gloves when you apply it or it turns your nails a weird color too. When it's dry you can't smell it unless you bury your nose in the fur and it's pretty much gone in a week but we kept the cats confined to the bathroom for the duration - with the fan on.

So miracles can happen and we hope you find yours.

One thought - you might try MSM in the food. It's cheap, harmless and has all sorts of interesting characteristics such as reducing allergies and causing increased hair growth as well as helping with arthritis. Another aspirin you might say.

I'm very sorry... and at the same time...I am so happy you took this dog into your life and do all you can for her... there is no finer animal, no finer a friend than a dog... the loss of one is a very hard task to endure.
Sticking by them to the end... is the most loving thing a person can do...

My hats off to you.... May God Bless.
