What is the rule, if any, regarding name changes in the PFHA? Is it allowed at all? I'm talking about changing the first name of the horse, not the second name (the breeder's name).
For example, if your mare's name is Inez del Campo, but you do not feel that the name Inez suits the mare, can you officially change it to Rosalita del Campo?

Yes, you can change the name, but there is a fee. I'm thinking it's pretty expensive, but can't remember the amount.

Also, if a mare has had a foal that has been registered with PFHA it cannot be changed. Same goes for a stallion.

I was going to do that once, and I found out it was like 100.00
I said forget it.
I can not get onto
PFHA web page for the fees right now, but if you go there, and
go to fee schedule it tells you the cost.
did you find a horse?

Erin, I'm still in the market, but I'm asking about the name "just in case" the horse has a name I really can't handle.

Kim, so if either parent is registered, you cannot change the name?

Yep, it's still $100.

I think Kim means if the horse you go to buy
has had a baby, then you can not change the name.
so if you do look at a mare, check to see if she has any babies on the ground befoer you try to change her name.

Exactly - and if the stallion has sired any foals. Sooooo Erin - you're not starting to feel a little "sick"? Are you sure you don't want to sneak outta there and come to Borderland with us??

I don't worry about registered names, it is the barn name that counts. That is what the horse learns to recognize anyway.
Phoebe's registered name does not have Phoebe in it anywhere. ;-)

You also can't do it if the horse has show points.

also some breeders will stipulate when first registering not to change the name on the application form (probably without permission from breeder). Registered PFHA breeder's names (before 1980?) and US copyrighted/trademarked breeder's names can't be removed.
Basicly comes down to $100 fee, shown with points, and/or any registered PFHA offspring.
