Ok - I know what I want to include in 'Little Man's'name, but I need some help in making it 'proper'.......
First some background.......my first foal born on the farm was Rosinante - a lot of you will remember her, and that I lost her to colic a few years ago after battling laminitis, Cushings and abcesses with her........
Well, this little guy is her nephew, and looks a lot like her in coloring so far - and I think if he holds true to that he will be a reddish bay...
This is Rosie posing for Christmas pictures...the bigger little girl (Brianna) turns 14 this year!

Marci as a baby - see how she is darker than her foal......

And 'Little Man'.....

So - on to names.......
If you didn't know who Rosinante was, it was Don Quixote's mount.......so, I was thinking of naming him somehting with 'Don Quixote' or 'Quixote' in it.......and would like to keep the 'Danza' or reference to dance.....
Danza's Don Quixote
Don Quixote de Danza (I'm so-so bout this)
Any other suggestions?

What is the registered name of the mare, what is the farm name for Sandy M?
What is your farm name?
What does Rosinante translate to in "Ingles" ?
There are quite a few Don Quixotes out there in the Paso world...
Any chance he will ever stand at stud or will you geld him?

I like Danze de Don Quixote
It would be neat if the babies born from APF breedings had a suffix "all their own" what great advertising that would be for Lori and her forum.

Marquesa de la Danza x Eminente de Mile
Glenbrook View Farm and Arrowhead Paso Finos
Rosinante was the name of Don Quixote's steed.......gee - glad I never looked up the definition!!! There is no 'translation' - same in English and Spanish.
1. the old, worn horse of Don Quixote.
2. (lowercase) an old, decrepit horse.
I find 10 Pasos with 'Quixote' in their name.....the youngest was born in 1997........nothing current.....
As far as stud or geld - I do not know at this point- too early to tell. If he ends up bring stud material, I would probably sell him or lease as I do not have facilites for that.

Don Quixote de Eminente, for an "all Spanish" name.... it tells the person looking that he is likely an Eminente son.
All the Pasos I raise names start with 2-W (Two bar W - my farm name) it tells you I bred & raised them.
Just a little bit about "whats in a name". In traditional "QH circles"... the name often reflects the sire or dam. In Paso Finos....the name often reflects the farm... I try to make mine reflect pedigree and farm.
It gives people less to guess about....
Anyway...whatever you name him.... will be just fine I'm sure...!
All mine have nicknames/barn names as registered names hare generally too long with too many sylables for a horse to understand anyway!
2-W Favorita de Sarafina... is simply... "Rita"
2-W Commandante de Oro... is simply..."Dante"
:D
We need Elsie Fox to suggest some names..she could come up with some of the best names I ever heard of... :D

Back when paso names reflected something about the individual horse, something that was special to him. I still use that practice. All the registered names I use have some meaning behind them that tells a story about the horse.

There has got to be more than ten Don Quixotes...pasoregistry is just very far behind in entries... there is a Don Quixote Paso Fino about 10 miles east of me not on pasoregistry...
Just FYI..not that it matters! It matters what YOU want it to be... :D

Rosinante comes from 'rocín' which basically means 'nag'.... Like everything in the story - Don Quixote saw things - even his horse - through the proverbial rose-colored glasses....

Don de la Danza
Eminente de la Danza (Emi made me put that one in! ;-) )
But then, we've got a 'unnamed' coming 2 year old gelding we've called Boogie for a year because that's how he moves through the pastures... :D Y'know - in the countries of origin they name their horses 'Butterfly', 'Butter', 'Prince', 'Black Gold', 'Silver Sea', and even after stars and constellations.... 'Anatres'

How about:
Bailador de Eminente
translates to
Eminentes Dancer
SandyMM

Virtually everything in Spanish is assigned a male or female designation.... If 'dance' is feminine then it is properly de la danza - no matter the preceeding name or gender....
Caliber? verify?
it can also mean 'from' the dance

Personally, I dislike using 's on names... Joe's Spotty Nag, or Capuchino's Hijo. It just isn't Spanish looking, for one thing, but I also dislike it on any horse name.
Like the look of Bailador de Eminente.

I ended up with Phoebe's registered name being sort of a story about how she and I crossed paths and a tribute to her being the last foal of her dam.
Lynn Gallup of Gracewood Paso Finos told me about her and she was out of Dorada del Rosa.
So, I ended up with...
Graciela de Dorada

Just a note..but I don't think you can have a ' punctuation mark on a registered name... I don't have a reg. application in front of me...might want to go to PFHA.org and look over the reg name requirements...on the applications.

Yes, you can have punctuation marks in a name...several of ours are IDH's such and such...as listed on the registration papers.

I like Terry's Don Quixote de Eminente, or Sandy's Eminente de la Danza! :D
But - is 'de la' correct for a boy? Or is that feminine....
No it's not feminine. because the real name would be Eminente and then de la danza...de la danza doesn't reflect on his gender. It just means of the dance. Danza is a feminine word
