I still need some ideas for games for our fun day
We will have
1) Ride a buck, rider supplies dollar winner take all
2) Potato Race
3) Phone Book Race
4) Obstacle Course (trail class) 5 points per obstacle completed
5) Egg & Spoon
I need at least one more class. We cannot do any class where you have to turn the horse loose, and we need to keep class props to a minimum. The footing is not great so we also need to stay away from pure speed classes like barrels and poles.
We are breaking each class into 3 divisions of leadline, walk trot, and can canter.

Bareback equitation is always fun, or daredevil which is where the riders try and do the hardest thing they can while keeping up gait, like sidesaddle, riding backwards, standing, etc... I know you said no speed events, but if the classes are broken into leadline, walk/trot, and canter then you might be able to do something like the magazine race where the announcer calls out a page number, and the rider runs, (or walks, or trots) down to the barrel with the magazine on top, rips out the page that was called out, and then runs back to the time line. Hope this helps!

Magazine race is the same as phone book race.
Last time our attendees seemed to be doing good just keeping the horse between them and the ground
So we really need to keep it simple

We just went to a fun show with the kids and some of the favorites of my kids were:
Simon Says
Lipstick Class (kids had to put on lipstick while at a trot/gait)
Musical Horses (there were cones set up and the horses had to stop at a cone when music stopped)
Red Light Green Light
All of these were done with leadline entries as well as kids that had never ridden before.
Where and when is the fun day?
Hope this helps,
Holly

Pike county, this Saturday. $10 flat fee for all classes. We supply water, you can either bring a lunch or we will order from Subway.
A word of warning, we don't have a clue as to what we are doing, but we hope to have fun!

We have a pretty good gymkhana group with a variety of games. My husband usually 'spots' on the phone book game (holding horse if necessary) because sometimes the kids actually jump off since they can't get their horse close enough to the barrel.
We also do a can race ... you need four barrels/4 coke cans filled with sand/and a broomstick. You ride around and knock the can over (not necessarily off) each barrel. That might work for you.
Good luck and have fun ... we do!

I hope you guys have fun!!!! My sister is in town from Florida this weekend! I know my kids would love to come otherwise. I can't wait to hear how things go!
My kids are begging me to find another fun day to go to.
